Security-First Mindset
Every architecture decision is filtered through a security lens. We design for zero-trust, defense-in-depth, and resilience.
The strategic mind behind your IT — wisdom through technology
Mimir IT Consultation Services works remotely with businesses in South Africa, the United Kingdom, Europe and further afield — Microsoft 365 migration, cybersecurity, disaster recovery and Virtual CIO advisory for organisations that rely on their systems to operate, scale and survive. Based in Somerset West in the Western Cape; on site across the Helderberg and Cape Town, and remote everywhere else.
Intellectual control of your IT infrastructure. Not support—strategic engineering.
Tenant design, mail and file migration, identity and device policy—ending with a documented handover rather than a support queue.
Your external IT brain. A roadmap with costs, a live risk register, and vendor review by someone with no commission in the answer.
Identity first, because that is where the attacks land. Conditional access, endpoint detection, and the evidence insurers and auditors ask for.
Engineered resilience. Recovery objectives agreed with the business, immutable copies, and a drill that proves the restore actually works.
We don't just configure it. We model it and write it down—identity, network, data and integration decided on purpose, not by accident.
Eliminate manual friction. Secure baselines applied by policy and joiner-mover-leaver that actually removes access when someone leaves.
Delivered remotely to clients across South Africa, the UK, Europe and beyond—and on site across Somerset West, Strand, Gordon’s Bay, Stellenbosch and greater Cape Town. See all IT services →

Most businesses run on fragile IT built by people who don't understand the full system. Complexity compounds. Risk grows. And when things break, the damage is severe.
Mimir exists to bring clarity, structure, and foresight to business technology. We don't just fix—we prevent. We don't just support—we engineer.
Systems that don't fail. Infrastructure that scales. Technology that serves your business, not the other way around.
Authority through expertise. Trust through consistency.
Every architecture decision is filtered through a security lens. We design for zero-trust, defense-in-depth, and resilience.
Hope is not a strategy. We engineer backup systems, failover protocols, and recovery procedures that actually work.
Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Defender—we speak the language fluently and architect it properly.
We think in systems, not products. Our solutions are built on first principles, not vendor marketing.
Professional firms and practices in South Africa, the UK and Europe — and across the Helderberg and Cape Town — that understand the value of strategic IT leadership.
“We serve companies who see IT as a strategic asset, not a cost center.”
A senior systems architect and technology strategist who has spent years building, repairing, and stabilizing mission-critical environments for international businesses. Working remotely with clients worldwide, from a base in Somerset West, South Africa.
“I solve problems that shouldn't exist in the first place.”
More about how the practice works →
Almost every engagement starts the same way, whatever it turns into: a bounded assessment. Not a proposal, not a discovery call with a quote attached — a fixed piece of work that produces three documents you keep regardless of what you decide next.
Those documents are yours. If you take them to another provider, or hand them to an internal person and get on with it, the assessment still did its job. An assessment that only has value if you also buy the implementation is a sales exercise, and it produces different advice.
Most of this work has not needed anyone in the room for years. Identity, cloud tenancy, security policy, backup design and architecture are configured and reviewed through the same admin surfaces whether the consultant is upstairs or on another continent. What a remote engagement actually needs is discipline about the things proximity used to paper over — scheduled sessions rather than corridor conversations, decisions written down rather than agreed verbally, and access that is scoped, named and revoked on time. Those are better practices anyway — the case is made in full in our piece on remote IT consulting across timezones.
We are based in Somerset West, South Africa, on SAST (UTC+2): the same working day as Central Europe, an hour or two ahead of the UK, with a real afternoon overlap into the US East Coast. That timezone, English as a first working language, and senior people at sensible rates are the practical case for the region — we set it out in full in IT outsourcing to South Africa. On-site work is available across the Helderberg, Stellenbosch and greater Cape Town; everywhere else is remote, which is almost always what the work needs anyway.
Worth being blunt about, because the two get sold interchangeably and they are not the same purchase. If what you need is someone to answer the phone when a laptop breaks, that is support, it is a legitimate thing to want, and this is not it. If the problem is that decisions keep getting made in response to something breaking rather than to a plan, that is what a virtual CIO engagement exists to fix.
And if you already have a capable internal person who is simply out of hours in the day, the cheaper answer is usually to extend them rather than replace them. That is what co-managed IT support is for, and we set out how those arrangements are structured in the piece on co-managed IT.
Not sure which of those describes you? That is a reasonable place to start from, and it is the first thing the assessment answers. Browse the full list of IT services or read the Insights section, which is written to be useful whether or not you ever get in touch.
